Job Purpose:

We work on the restoration and customization of classic cars and restomods and you need to understand the demands of that sort of work environment. This means knowing how to assemble many different makes and models of cars and being able to do the necessary research to make the job happen. Wiring is done during assembly, and it is crucial that you understand the wiring of LS, Coyote, Holley Sniper, Dakota Digital and be able to wire them correctly to fit a variety of cars. This also means knowing the aftermarket well and knowing the parts available for specific applications to make things work in certain cars wehre it was never meant to be in the first place. Assembly also includes brake work and a variety of aftermarket accessories and the complete understanding of how to install the systems professionally.

Qualifications:

 
  • ​​​​​​Valid driver’s License
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working on custom cars is requested. Some exceptions may be made based on references.
  • Previous proven experience working with vehicles of many makes and models.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Hand tools and certain specialty tools are your responsibility. We do provide internet and computers. Any major equipment can be discussed for shop purchases.
  • Ability to do a complete job in not only skill set, but thought process and planning including, but not limited to, materials, products and install procedures (this includes a clear understanding of what is needed/wanted for the job)
  • Capable and communicative with clearly understood progress reports- Capable of independently engaging with research methods such as call-in technical support or internet diagrams, videos, and other expert assistance.
  • Strong understanding of mathematical concepts and measurements
  • In-depth understanding of wiring diagrams and electrical precepts
  • Show high-quality finished results as most of what we work on will be show quality.

Duties and responsibilities:
 
  • Performing quality control to avoid defects and warranty work.
  • Install numerous Dakota digital gauge clusters into various vehicles.
  • Install a complete chassis harness with proper function.
  • Diagnose electrical issues.
  • Install LS and coyote wiring harnesses and integrate them into the chassis harness and gauges.
  • Brake installations including brands such as, but not limited to, Wilwood and Baer
  • Understand and install a variety of fuel systems and various related components.
  • Properly assemble a variety of steering components
  • Self-manage your time on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to project deadlines
  • Problem-solve independently as well as brainstorm in line with the challenges that often occur.
  • Understanding the aftermarket and what parts are available.
  • Be willing to grow.
  • Have a positive “can do” attitude.

Working conditions:
  • 40 hours/week based on a 4-day work week for 10hrs/day Monday through Thursday with 2 15-minute breaks and one hour lunch from 12-1 pm on the day worked Overtime is not authorized unless prior written approval by management.
  • Doing this job requires wearing a respirator for sometimes all the day’s work processes. The shop is very dusty, and it is required that a respirator be worn during times of need such as but not limited to sanding and grinding metals of various types.
  • Must be comfortable in a loud environment. Some of the processes used are damaging to your ears and hearing protection will be required.
  • Some of the materials used are hazardous and require special handling. This means gloves and a vapor-safe respirator. You must wear the proper safety gear when using these products.
  • Some of the jobs require the use of tools that can be dangerous if not used properly. You must have knowledge of that tool’s risks prior to use.

MECHANIC AND FABRICATION
TECHNICIAN

Job Purpose:

Ensure the mechanical performance of various types of vehicles based on vehicle needs, customer requests and various repair types. Inspect and repair vehicles for safety concerns and drivability. We work on many different types of vehicles. From fire trucks to full-on custom-built performance cars from 1900-2021. Your knowledge of those types of repairs is an absolute must.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Perform vehicle inspections using Pot O’ Gold Kustoms’ vehicle inspection report
  • Report any major concerns found of any kind during any kind of work performed on any vehicle
  • Exchange and repair of various types of parts for different kind of vehicles meaning you are responsible for those repairs including but not limited to, drivetrain, oil leak repairs, suspension and steering repairs, fuel system and brake repairs
  • Test drive both before and after repairs where possible for both safety and functionality
  • Most repairs and upgrades are putting newer modern tech on older vehicles. This requires a complete understanding of those mechanical systems and the right and wrong ways to do them. This may require welding and modifications for any certain purpose.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on high end cars is requested. Some exceptions may be made based on references.
  • Knowledge and proper use of the MIG welding process
  • Knowledge of classic cars and upgrades/repairs to various types of cars. Not only how to do it, but what is available for them.
  • A willingness to learn a variety of repair types and vehicles, have an open mind and be willing to apply that knowledge to the job processes as needed
  • Driver’s license

BODY/PAINT TECHNICIAN

Job Purpose:
The job of the body technician is to take a car from the metal/fabrication stage, through body filler, paint and finish stages including polishing and partial, and even sometimes complete assembly. You are to assist with all levels of duties in the body shop up to and including clean-up work and final detail of the vehicle.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Knowing company standards and what is expected on each car prior to looking it over. Meaning: not every car will be a show winner, but some are, and it is important to know the difference.
  • Continued quality checks prior to and during work are a must. Making notes about gaps, and certain fitment as well as the way the car was put together while taking it apart so during re-assembly, which happens sometimes as much as 3 times per car, this can be done smoothly and without incident.
  • Proper application of body filler based on car type as well as proper filler use, and it is important to know which steps to use them in.
  • Proper blocking technique. It is of the upmost importance to use the block properly as far as holding it and the proper strokes and angles during sanding to fit the shape of that particular car being worked on.
  • Masking is very important for a few reasons. It keeps areas clean that do not need attention during certain steps and it controls our material build where needed.
  • Paint/primer application methods for each vehicle and materials needed for those applications
  • Polishing consists of 3 sometimes 4 or even 5 steps of wet sanding both by hand and with a DA sander. For the machine polishing we do 5 steps and then we do a hand glaze. You will need to know what type of machine is needed for these steps and what types of compound and pads for each of those steps.
  • Detail is the final step of most of the projects in the body shop. This is the last step before it goes home usually. During this step you will clean areas that are hard to get to but are easily seen by the customer. Such as but not limited to, door jambs, behind grills, cowl vents, etc. We also do a full clean on the interior of the cars from plastics to leather and many other types of materials. You will need to know what product is best to use for each material and the order of application of these materials.

Qualifications:
 
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working on high-end cars is requested. Some exceptions may be made based on references.
  • Professional auto body knowledge is an absolute must.
  • Must know and appreciate block sanding. Most of this job is sanding and prep. Proper knowledge of that prep is extremely important.
  • Tools needed for the job. Safety equipment will be provided for you the rest of the tools are your responsibility and will not be provided to you.
  • Attention to detail.
  • The ability to take criticism and use that to further your work abilities.

SHEET METAL FABRICATION
TECHNICIAN

Job Purpose:

The job of the Fabrication technician is to make sure repairs to be done to vehicles are done in proper order and done correctly for overall fitment of body panels and repairs. Each car is different so each repair will be different. Flexibility to those types of repairs is a must. Technician must be able to use a variety of metal shaping tools confidently and purposely to straighten metal, stay consistent in repair/custom methods, remove/replace rust and repair surface imperfections. This means being able to put an entire car together including all rust repairs and custom fabrication. Suspension, brake, steering, fuel delivery and exhaust knowledge is a plus. Each car we do will have metal fabrication but not every car will be a total custom as we do restoration work as well.

Duties and responsibilities:
 
  • Learn and retain company standards and what is expected on each car prior to looking it over. Meaning: not every car will be a show winner, but some are, and it is important to know the difference. We have A, B and C level cars. Each car will be different.
  • Learn quality checks prior to and during work are a must. Panel alignment and fitment must be noted prior to work starting so if any additional repairs may be needed.
  • Learn and retain roper tool use for proper types of repairs
  • Learn and retain proper maintenance and use of tools
  • Learn and retain protecting the vehicle and surrounding vehicles during various repairs

Qualifications:
 
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working custom and classic cars is requested. Some exceptions may be considered based on verifiable references.
  • Welding of many different types of materials including but not limited to, sheet metal, aluminum, stainless steel
  • Knowledge and proper use of welding processes including but not limited to Mig welding, tig welding, brazing, and body solder work – some exceptions will be made
  • High Attention to detail
  • Tools needed for the job. We do have metal brakes, a planishing hammer, a power hammer, a drill press, a Shop Sabre plasma table, and a box/pan brake. We are always looking to expand our tool collection and are adding to it constantly to keep up with the industry. Safety equipment WILL BE provided for you. Hand tools are your responsibility and will not be provided to you.
Working conditions:
 
  • This is a 7-6 Monday through Thursday job meaning four 10-hour days weekly. We have a break in the AM at 10 am for 10 minutes, lunch from 12-1 pm, and a final break at 3 pm for 10 minutes. Overtime is not authorized unless prior written approval by management.

UPHOLSTERY TECHNICIAN

Job Purpose:

The job of the Upholstery Technician is to make sure the work to be done to vehicles are done in proper order and correctly for overall fitment of panels and repairs. Each car is different so each job will be different. Flexibility in those types of jobs is a must. Technicians must be able to use a variety of tools confidently and purposely.

Duties and responsibilities:

 
  • Determine amounts and types of covering materials.
  • Remove old covering, webbing, padding, and/or defective springs.
  • Operate saw table and band saw machines to perform simple frame cuts.
  • Measure, cut, and trim foam with hand tools as well as change foam inserts out.
  • Measure, cut, and prep covering material for sewing microfiber, microsuede, linen, cotton, velvet, vinyl, leather, hair on hide, etc.
  • Upholster new covering materials that have large fabric pattern repeats which may be required for the project.
  • Create button tufting using needles, thread, and hand tools.
  • Attach single welt, double welt, gimp, as required.
  • Sew upholstery by hand to seam cushions and join various sections of upholstery materials.
  • Perform other related upholstery tasks as assigned.
  • Knowing company standards and what is expected on each project.
  • Continued and repeated quality checks prior to and during work are a must.
  • Proper maintenance and use of tools.
  • Protecting the vehicle and surrounding vehicles during various jobs.
  • Take and use constructive criticism as a learning tool.
